My Calling and Vocation

My Calling and Vocation

Many people have asked me what keeps my standards for rebuilding pianos so high. The answer is I truly know this is my calling in life. The outcome of my work represents my vocation and faith.

In every step of the restoration process, the re-builder has to decide whether to spend the money on the finest parts, or save money and use lesser quality parts. I choose to use the best parts and take on each part of the restoration process with all the heart and skill I possess.

First, I truly enjoy restoring pianos. Further, I don’t look at piano restoration as a job, but rather a vocation.

Vocation comes from the Latin word for “calling”. Not only do I feel called to do this, but I also know I have to answer to God for the quality of the work I do. What a sobering privilege it is to restore pianos!

And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”

from the book of Colossians in the Bible, Chapter 3, verses 23 and 24.

My foundational reason for quality comes from my faith and is summed up in that verse.
