About Us

We have a passion for the restoration of ‘Golden Era’ pianos. For us it’s a joy to see a hundred-year-old piano go from a worn, broken condition to a showpiece instrument — one that looks and sounds new.
Grand American Piano's owner and founder, Clint Hughes, seated at a piano.
Over the past two decades we have restored hundreds of pianos including antique instruments from Steinway & Sons, Mason & Hamlin, Baldwin, Knabe, Sohmer, Weber, Chickering, and many more. Each instrument has its own character and challenges to bring back its former glory.
In addition to restoring baby grand and grand pianos, we also restore vintage upright and antique square grand pianos. Our client testimonials give you background about our service as well as our passion for restoring antique pianos.
Piano restoration is exciting and rewarding work. We have our hands on each part of the transformation, and get to watch the piano progress from the proverbial ugly duckling to a gleaming swan. For us, restoring vintage pianos is not a job, its a vocation.
In 2010, we were contacted to be part of the television show Extreme Makeover, Home Edition. Although we did not restore a piano for the episode, we did advise the stars on creative use of a vintage upright to add one-of-a-kind, beautiful, music-themed furniture to the home.
You are welcome to read the story about how we got started at the Sunset Grill in Hollywood.
